NEW MUSIC : Sia – Chandelier

Songbird, Sia has released her first single ‘Chandelier’ ; the first single the Australian singer has released in over four years. A lot of persons are saying she sounds like Rihanna and she even said she thought of her when she was writing it.

This is true to some extent but we think she sounds absolutely beautiful. Such a freeing song! Take a listen!

This one’s Abstract Approved.

5 Music Albums We’re Pumped For This Year

Abstract LookOut

Music is very dear to us and we are in no way genre prejudice, although pop and hip hop are ultimate faves! So we decided to come up with a list for everyone for Abstract Lookout!

Here are 5 albums that we personally are looking forward to hearing this year!

1. Full Frequency by Sean Paul (February 18)

This is is sixth-studio album from Sean Paul and although he is Jamaican, he has managed to add a few top contenders in the hip-hop world (namely Juicy J, 2Chainz & Nicki Minaj) but has still managed to keep his the dancehall in the mix. Previously scheduled to be released in Novemeber of 2013, Sean Paul has released a few singles –¬†Other Side of Love,¬†Entertainment” which features 2Chainz & Juicy J¬†as well as the remix featuring Nicki Minaj,¬†Turn It Up & Want Dem All¬†!

Oh, What A Life

Oh, What A Life

2. Oh, What A Life by American Authors (March 4)

This will be American Author’s debut album, having already released their singles Believer¬†&¬†Best Day Of My Life (a favourite of ours)! We have a feeling this will be a good one.

3. Cheek to Cheek by Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga (March 18)

You might have remembered the two doing a collaboration for The Lady Is a Tramp! This time, they will be doing an entire album together; one that will sure be a hair-raiser.

4. Head or Heart by Christina Perri (April 1)

One may not consider her mainstream, at least not at the calibre of  the Beyonces and Rihannas but once we heard Jar of Hearts, she had us sold! She has a great voice and her music just soothes the soul. She has already released her first single from the album, titled Human! Go have a listen! And she even has Ed Sheeran featured!!!

5. Last but not least – Adele

Now a date nor a name hasnot been confirmed but Ms. Adele did say she was working on her third studio album. According to MTV UK, Adele is currently in London working on the tracks. An inside source stated,

Adele is currently in a recording studio in London and it’s in lock-down mode for the next few weeks. Four tracks are finished in terms of writing and she’s now laying down preliminary vocals with backing music and singers.¬†The rest of the record will be done in LA. The feel is very much Adele going back to her roots, with some modern jazz and a couple of classic old songs.

We are already excited for this!

Now, you may not be a fan of these artistes and that’s completely OK! On the other hand, you could be the President of their fan clubs and that works too! Let us know which ones you can’t wait to hear or maybe you have a few to share that would have been on your list! What are you on the LOOKOUT for?

P.S. There might just be a Part II as more announcements are made from other artistes on their upcoming projects.

Soothing Souls One Paint Stroke At A Time – Introducing Tamarra Kirkpatrick

Hey Abstract Lovers, we have a new feature in store for you – Behind The Name

The aim of this feature is to do a sort of profile story on individuals who we think represent the true ideology of lifestyle and its many facets. Our first feature focuses on a young woman who goes by the name of Tamarra Kirkpatrick, known for her sweet soul and her love for art ( she manages to find a way to blend both to make her mark in this world). We got a chance to hear from her and find out a little about her life and passions.

Do you have any college degrees and what is it in? Yes I do it is A Bachelors of Fine Arts focused in Fine Art and minoring in Art Therapy

Where do you currently work? Currently I am volunteering at a school for children with special needs called Genesis Academy.

What is your job description? I essentially am an art teacher, I assist with anything art-related, props they need for their shows or any school activity or class activities that they need artistic help with. AKA schools art pack-mule (lol).

What are you listening to at this moment? (Can be an album or a specific artiste)¬†¬†I’ve been listening to the Lorde album, Mac Millers Blue Slide Park album and these remixes by RAC..

Name a song or songs that you think sums up your entire life.¬†Uhmmmm ha that’s difficult but Blue Jeans by Lana Del Ray is my favourite right now, the chorus sums up my love life… sorta not really ha.

Name the one city/country you could see yourself spending the rest of your life? And why?¬†I don’t want to leave this tropical weather but maybe.. Australia, because I dunno it seems interesting, stalking pictures of tumblr and websites of photos taken there they seem to have an interesting night life.. I mean minus all the poisonous animals that would be amazing.

If you could list three principles that you live by what would they be? Why those three?¬†Don’t stress the small things.. or the big ones. Love yourself at all points of your life, believe in yourself like Kanye believes in himself. And have as much fun as you can, when you can, life is too short to spend it in tears. OH! And do what you love, and make money at it.

Where do you see yourself going career wise?¬†I’d love to be an art teacher, make a name for myself as an artist and hopefully one day opening up a space for contemporary artists work.

If you weren’t in the career field that you are in now, what would be your next pick?¬†Culinary.. most definitely culinary. Baking is something I think I would like to take on as a full time job one day.

Who/ what inspires you?¬†My inspirations never come form one specific places, it could be things I see while I’m out during the day or something I see online, an image that I can’t wait to draw up and use paint to depict how I see it. Music is a big inspiration too, it helps drive you through a piece of art.

What is your ultimate dream that you wish to accomplish? To leave a mark on peoples minds. To have helped them in a positive way and bettered both of us through the interaction. And I just to do something I love till I die.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Miss Tamarra Kirkpatrick.

Look out for even more great profiles!

Shaggy & Friends A Success

A few posts ago, we made mention of a charity event that was to take place in Jamaica to raise funds for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital in Kingston.

Rumor has it that the event was ASTOUNDING and turns out those rumors were true. Abstract Square had a chance to be in attendance and let us tell you, it was indeed a well put together event … THE BEST PART WAS – It was all done for the kids.

Great energy … Great food …. Great performances … all towards ONE goal!

The show started promptly at 10: 00 pm on January 4th and the musical line-up had the crowd raving until 3 in the morning. As previously announced many top Jamaican performers were booked including event host Shaggy, Tessanne Chin (The Voice Season 5 winner), NeYo,¬†Matthew Schuler (Top 6 Finalist from The Voice Season 5), Tarrus Riley, Konshens, Wayne Marshall,¬† Assassin, Chronixx, Sean Paul and there were even surprise performances. Mr Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley stopped by as well as Jah Cure.

It really was a night to remember and even as the show lights went off, the event coordinators found ways that everyone could still donate to the cause (See image below)

I dare you to care and give back to the children; even the smallest amount will help. I implore you – this is a worthy cause and one that needs everyone’s full support.

For highlights from the show and more, be sure to check out the Shaggy and Friends Facebook page.

Dare To Care – Shaggy & Friends Benefit Concert

Abstract Square would like to take a moment to acknowledge a special event that is to take place in Jamaica. A benefit concert titled Shaggy & Friends, ¬†is spear-headed by Grammy-winning artiste, Shaggy and his team from the Shaggy Foundation to raise funds for the Bustamante Children’s Hospital in Jamaica. This concert has been happening for a few years but each year it gets better and better and this year is even better than before.

The concert this year is slated for the 4th of January 2014 on the Lawns of the Jamaican House (Office of the Prime Minster) and will feature a slew of artistes who are all on #TeamShaggy4Kids! Head-liners are none other than host Shaggy, Season 5’s The Voice winner, Tessanne Chin and R&B star NeYo. Other artistes on the line-up include Matthew Schuler, Tarrus Riley, Konshens, Wayne Marshall,¬† Assassin, Chronixx, Sean Paul and so much more.

What makes this event so special is that all the money raised will go towards the hospital -specifically to renovate the cardiac wing of the hospital – and it is such a GREAT act of kindness. It’ll sure to be a good time but the best part is that the children will benefit the most because it always is about giving back to the kids. As they say One Ticket = One Life!!

Stay tuned for more updates on this wonderful venture!
