NEW MUSIC : Sia – Chandelier

Songbird, Sia has released her first single ‘Chandelier’ ; the first single the Australian singer has released in over four years. A lot of persons are saying she sounds like Rihanna and she even said she thought of her when she was writing it.

This is true to some extent but we think she sounds absolutely beautiful. Such a freeing song! Take a listen!

This one’s Abstract Approved.

Chanel’s Grocery Shop – Top 16 Bags Of The A/W 2014 Show

A Stairway To Fashion

The Chanel catwalk yesterday looked like a huge grocery store – designer Karl Lagerfeld underlines the limited life a collection has, just like the food we find on shelves, so, he went parading his Fall/Winter 2014 collection down the supermarket aisles. The attention to details when styling the show was very important – shelves were stacked with everything from washing powder to chainsaws and baskets with groceries, all Chanel signed of course. The baskets for products, made of Chanel’s characteristic chain with leather, explained most clearly the theme of the collection presented at the Grand Palais. Before you the top sixteen bags from the show, from the classic Chanel model and its variations – successful Le Boy – to brand new models.

#HOLYHAIR – Hairstyles that will never go out-of-style

With all the eccentric, bold and even weird hairstyles that are coming out this year as the fashion and style industry grows, there are  always certain hairstyles that any woman (and the man) can rely on that WILL NEVER become passé.

Photo Credit – Toby Canham/Getty Images

The BOB – Probably the most popular hairstyle to date (in our opinion) and it never gets stale. We could be wrong but people sure do love this one. There’s so many ways that you can play up the bob, it’s simply amazing such a hairstyle is so versatile.

The LOB – Yes this means a  longer bob (see what they did there) haha

You can’t go wrong with a lob and for many who worry that one day you may not feel like letting your hair down, the lob is just for you, as opposed to the bob which can sometimes be very short. All you need is a hair clip or two and you are rocking another hairstyle.

The PIXIE CUT – Want to feel sexy or just be daring for once? The pixie cut is just right. A pixie cut is indeed a cute hairstyle but be warned – If not done properly, it won’t look right. Also, it takes a lot of care and not for those who are lazy or just can’t find the time.

The BUN – Buns are a girl’s best friend. You can make a messy bun or you make a perfect bun. Either way, a bun can be fitting for any occasion, whether it be a dinner, or a night out with friends or a girl’s day out shopping.

… Men we haven’t forgotten you either. Three hairstyles that are absolutely sexy (to us, at least) are the undercut, the spiky hair and the Faux-Hawk.

The UNDERCUT – Many male (and female) celebs sport this one and we guess you can call it a trend. But to us it will never become primitive. The low sides are absolutely appealing to the eye and we must say – SUPER SEXY!

The SPIKY HAIR – Now, everything doesn’t have to be all neat and fancy and this is where the spiky hair comes in. Sometimes all it takes is some gel and a comb and you’re good to go. For others, it might mean a haircut but nevertheless, this is a look that can fit most, if not all, so give it a try.

AND The FAUX-HAWK – We say faux-hawk and not mohawk because the mohawk can get a little scary sometimes. With a faux-hawk, it looks a little bit more sophisticated and it fits just about every face shape out there.

Photography is dear to our hearts and whenever possible we give props where props are due and it the belief of Abstract Square that we must support our fellow artists (whether it be music, design, arts, etc)

We came upon a photo, thanks to Pinterest (hence the #PinTuesday tag lol) and WE HAD TO SHARE!

Abstract News – “Release” Was A Success

Last Thursday, The Abstract Team got a chance to be a part of the audience to watch the showcase called ‘Release’ put on by the performing arts company, QUILT at the Phillip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (UWI, Jamaica).

The aim of the show was to raise funds as they were selected to represent Jamaica in Manchester, England at “Contacting the World”, an international theatre exchange project for young people involving young companies from around the globe this summer. They were one of six fortunate companies to be invited.

The show was all about the application of SOUND. LIGHT. WORDS. PASSION. and ART. to “Release” their creative energies.

Rayon, McLean, Artistic Director of the company says

I don’t believe in thinking outside the box; I never created one in the first place, so I don’t need to find my way out

and this was very distinct in the entire show.

The group raised the bar for performing companies around the world as they entertained a small audience on the university campus.. The show featured 7 pieces, ranging from singing to dancing to acting; some even incorporating all three.

We speak for all in attendance when we say that the show was well put together and they deserve all the success that comes their way. Immaculate production and many talented people!

Sponsorship was provided by local Production Company, Factory75

2.  MountBlanc Timewalker Extreme Chronograph DLC

According  to the  Watch Insider, Montblanc kicked off the second decade of this iconographic watch line with the presentation of the new TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph DLC. The colour of the diamond-like carbon coating is described as “Black 4”, which stands for “very black”.

Montblanc-TimeWalker-Extreme-Chronograph-DLC-620x990

The acronym DLC (= diamond-like carbon) means that the toughness of the stainless steel case’s surface has been increased to the utmost. Minuscule glass spherules are blasted under high pressure to give the steel a microscopic texture to which the DLC-coating can almost inseparably adhere, thus producing a fine matte finish on the surface. The same process is used on the other stainless steel components: i.e. the readily grasped crown, the chronograph’s buttons, the midnight-black pronged buckle, and the screwed back with its pane of sapphire crystal.

Its sapphire crystal case-back reveals the exceptional decoration on the movement. Unique Qualities include the back of the Duomètre Unique Travel Time watch features engraved names of cities corresponding to 24 time zones and there’s a map of the world on a delicately grained dial.

#PinTuesdays – DIY Furniture Makeover – Awesome Paint Job

PinTuesdays-01-01-01-01

It isn’t a secret that many of us look around our home on a daily basis and sigh at the disaster that has become our furniture! We long for more vibrant colours in our homes and just a little more creative to keep us going.

Have no fear! This week’s pin looks at DIY Furniture Makeovers and they’re quite simple (although you just may need a helping hand or two)

Shout-out to Kathy for this awesome link to the Babble page where the article originated from. There were actually 10 paint makeovers mentioned but we chose our FAVE! And you will see why it’s a fave!

A beauty, right? This particular paint job was done by Destiny from A Place Like Us and she has blessed us with a step-by-step guide on how she got it done with her guest post on Infarrantly Creative. We have quoted below!

 Supplies:

Sander

Various grits of sandpaper

Extra Rags

Primer

Beautiful Paint Color (Coral Gables by Benjamin Moore)

Polyurethane (Optional)

Paint Sprayer or Rollers

Pulls

First take your dresser and give it a light sanding with a fine-medium grit sandpaper. You want to take any shine off or any imperfections you might see. After that wipe it down with a dry cloth or tack cloth to remove any sand.

Next, use a really good primer. This is important because you want your paint to stay put and not smear or chip away. I always use KILZ oil-based primer in a can for furniture redos. Just make sure you give it a real good shake before you spray it on, other wise when you spray you are going to get a rough texture.

Give it one good coat, two if you want to be an over achiever Smile.

After it has dried overnight or a few hours sand it again, very lightly with a fine grit sandpaper. Take your towel and give it a good wipe down to remove any debris.

For the next step I suggest you use a sprayer, because it will give you a pretty finish! But you can definitely use a sponge rollers to paint it by hand. I don’t like using brushes because of the marks. I found that sponge rollers are the next best thing if you haven’t gotten yourself a fancy sprayer.

TIP:For a pretty finish move your gun back and fourth, and follow through from edge to edge. Never stop in the middle of a piece because it might give you some drips!

At this point you can spray it with a clear coat of polyurethane for extra protection. Let it dry for a couple of day before you attach any hardware.

Thanks Destiny for this tutorial!

You can check out the rest of this article to see other cool and yummy (yes we said yummy) furniture paint jobs! Maybe you feel inspired and start your very own makeover! Please to send us pics when you do!!

P.S Be sure to go check out Destiny’s blog! She really has some good posts! Show her some love!
